A Condition from HanuMan Director That Every Producer Should Consider

Director Prashanth Varma is known for coming up with some brilliant projects. Especially after HanuMan, his demand has gone up in the industry. Despite the recent controversies around his lineup, he has a lot of clarity on how he looks at the movies. During the IFFI in Goa, Prashanth made a statement on seeking time for post-production, which holds extremely true.

Especially in the current times, where the producers themselves have no control over the release dates, Prashanth Varma made valid comments stating that it is important to have control over release dates. Prashanth Varma stated that he makes sure to include a clause in agreements with his producers that he will take the final call on the release date.

“I realise that either you give the VFX artist a lot of time, or if you have a lot of money, send the output to some big company and get the VFX done. After some BAD EXPERIENCES with my first films, whenever I sign a project, I agree with my producers: LET ME DECIDE THE RELEASE DATE. Once the film is shot, give me enough time to cook it properly. I need that time for post-production. So, the producers were happy to give me time,” revealed Prashanth Varma.

What Prashanth Varma is doing is something every director should adopt. Despite pressure from OTT platforms and the challenges producers face, directors must follow a strategy where they decide the release date instead of OTT, keeping the final control in their hands. No matter the movie’s outcome, the director takes the credit or the blame. Only he can decide how long it will take to execute the vision he has in mind.

Prashanth Varma tasted success with that strategy, but it is definitely not possible for all the directors, and with big production houses running the business, a star director alone has the power to dictate, and all others must succumb to pressure. Hope the situation gets better soon.
