Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah got married to journalist Nidhi Razdan in a private ceremony, bringing an end to years of speculation surrounding their relationship. The couple announced the news on Saturday, October 31, through social media posts, sharing photographs.
Omar Abdullah, 56, shared pictures with Nidhi on X captioned, “A new journey began yesterday.” The post suggested that the wedding took place on Friday, October 30. Nidhi, 49, also shared photographs from the celebrations, responding to his post with a rather playful, “It’s done bro”, along with a ring emoji.
According to reports, the wedding was a private affair in Srinagar, preceded by a small family gathering attended by close relatives from both sides. Omar’s parents, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Mollie Abdullah, along with his three sisters and other family members, were present. Nidhi’s parents, veteran journalist MK Razdan and Sarla Razdan, also attended the celebrations.
While Omar Abdullah is one of Jammu and Kashmir’s most prominent political figures, Nidhi Razdan has had a long career in television journalism, particularly with NDTV, where she became a familiar face through her political reporting and news anchoring.
The couple’s relationship had been the subject of speculation for several years. Rumours started in 2020, when Nidhi interacted with Omar on social media following his release from detention. She had responded to a photograph he shared with his parents with the comment, “Welcome back. Now please shave.” Nidhi was also spotted at the front row during Omar’s swearing-in ceremony as Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister in October 2024, further fuelling speculation.
The marriage comes just three months after the Supreme Court formally dissolved Omar Abdullah’s marriage to his estranged wife, Payal Abdullah. The former couple had married on September 1, 1994, and have two sons, Zahir and Zamir. They had been living separately since 2009. The couple’s wedding has drawn congratulatory messages from across political and media circles, as Omar Abdullah and Nidhi Razdan begin a new chapter together.
