Director Shankar faced outright criticism after his previous two outings Indian 2 and Game Changer failed to impress moviegoers and critics. Many feel that Shankar lost his Midas touch and needs to reinvent himself to regain his lost glory. Meanwhile, Shankar seems to be busy working on his ambitious project to make a strong comeback.
Though it is believed that Shankar is firm on completing Kamal Haasan’s Indian 3, the third installment of social drama, before moving on to his dream project, Kollywood media says the other way. According to these reports, Shankar has reportedly moved away from Indian 3 and started working on the pre-production of his next film, which is going to be an adaptation of popular Tamil novel ‘Veera Yuga Nayagan Velpari’.
In June this year, Shankar himself revealed that he will take up his dream project ‘Velpari’ only after wrapping up Indian 3 which has already completed 70% shooting. If the current reports are to be believed, Shankar appears to have decided to stall the production of Indian 3 and concentrate on next project. This might be because of the embarrassing box office outcome of Indian 2 and also due to the fact that even Kamal Haasan is not keen on working for the third installment and instead preferring to shift his time towards his films with Rajinikanth.
As per Kollywood buzz, Shankar is planning to kick start the shooting formalities of Velpari in June next year. A top-league Tamil actor is likely to play the titular role in this big-budget period drama which is touted to be one of the biggest films ever made in India.
