Watch: Gulte’s Debutant Diaries With Psych Siddhartha Director

Nandu’s upcoming film Psych Siddhartha marks the debut of director Varun Reddy whose entry into cinema is far from conventional. Before stepping behind the camera, Varun worked as an architect in Bangalore, while his childhood in Hyderabad shaped most of his creative instincts. This blend of technical training and cultural exposure pushed him toward storytelling that feels relatable to a wide audience. His shift to films became serious after he studied screenwriting and completed a filmmaking course at Annapurna Film School.

Varun believes every film is born in the edit. He often says he directs with the final cut in mind. His editor Pratik plays a key role in this process as the duo rebuild sequences in the edit room based on feedback and fresh ideas. Music director Smaran Sai is another crucial collaborator. Varun calls him his partner in crime because the fusion of their sound and edit style gives the film its unique energy.

At the heart of his process is one rule. Whenever a change is required, the replacement must be far better than the original. This no compromise approach, he says, forces the entire team to push their craft to the highest level.

Psych Siddhartha releases on December 12, and Varun Reddy promises that Nandu’s film will deliver a gripping and creatively charged cinematic experience crafted with precision and passion.
