Dhurandhar – Good Start, Needs A Strong Weekend

Ranveer Singh’s latest action saga Dhurandhar surprised Bollywood trade circles with a good opening at the box office on the first day. While many predicted that the film would open in the range of 18-20 Crores net in the domestic market, the final numbers defied all expectations and gave the career best start for Ranveer Singh.

As per trade estimates, Dhurandhar notched up 27 Crores net in India and a total worldwide gross of 40 Crores to emerge as second biggest opener in Bollywood after Chhaava. It managed to outperform ‘Saiyaara’, which is one of the highest grossing films in Hindi this year. The spy thriller, directed by Aditya Dhar, surpassed the first day collections of 2018 film ‘Padmavat’ to emerge as the biggest opener for Ranveer Singh.

Dhurandhar saw moderate occupancies for morning and matinee shows, but there was a promising surge in collections during the evening and night shows, which helped the film take a solid opening on the first day.

The reviews are decent and the word of mouth is also not bad. So, the film will need to hold well during the first weekend and register impressive figures after such a promising start.

The story of Dhurandhar is based in Pakistan in the early 2000s, in which Ranveer plays an Indian spy who takes on the gangs of Lyari. Based on true incidents, the film also stars Akshay Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan.
