Kollywood’s much anticipated Pongal week is turning out to be a disastrous season. Already, Thalapathy Vijay’s highly awaited Jana Nayagan got postponed due to legal entangles and Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi opened to mixed reports.
Just when it appeared that all hurdles cleared for the release of Tamil actor Karthi’s much delayed cop drama Vaa Vaathiyaar ( Annagaru Vostaru in Telugu) on January 14, fresh legal troubles seem to be brewing as per the latest reports in Kollywood.
Sources revealed that Karur based Dhanesh Associates has approached the Madras High Court to prevent the release of the movie in Tamil as well as Telugu. Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy will hear the plea on Monday and the outcome will decide the fate of film’s release.
It will be huge setback if the film gets postponed again as it will lose a great opportunity to take advantage of the empty festival season after the postponement of Jana Nayagan and Average performance of Parashakthi.
Vaa Vaathiyar was originally slated for release on December 12 last year. However, it could not be released since the Official Assignee of the High Court filed an execution petition seeking a direction to K.E. Gnanavel Raja of the production house to settle dues to the tune of ₹21.78 crore.
The issue pertains to the dues to be paid by Vaa Vaathiyaar producer KE Gnanavel Raja to one businessman Arjunlal Sunderdas, who was later declared an insolvent.
After much delay and several negotiations, Studio Green has finally secured permission from the Court to release the film. But, the fresh legal case has further raised doubts about the film’s release on time. If the production house quickly resolves the issue, the film might make it to screens on January 14, or else it will face another delay.
Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’ has Karthi playing a policeman who goes to any extent to uphold the principles set forth by the late superstar and former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran. The film stars Krithi Shetty as the female lead.
