One of India’s biggest stars, Shah Rukh Khan is returning to the big screen with his next film King, which is being directed by Siddharth Anand, who had earlier delivered blockbuster Pathaan to SRK.
King happens to be one of the anticipated films in the Hindi market, and it is expected to be the big action film from Bollywood that could be a 1000 crore grosser.
However, the latest communication from the makers of this action film is that King would be releasing in theatres on 24 December this year. While the obvious choice to release the film during the Christmas weekend is understandable, there is a lot of external pressure associated with it.
The primary point that must be noted here is that Hollywood films Avengers Doomsday, and Dune 3 are releasing in theatres on December 18 this year.
With two of the biggest Hollywood films in recent years releasing on the same day, it can be expected that they would be grabbing almost all of the IMAX and big screen facilities across the United States and also globally.
This would leave Shah Rukh Khan’s King with a severe deficiency in terms of big screens outside of India.
Even domestically speaking, the Avengers and Dune franchises are pretty big, and they have a considerable following here. They would certainly eat into the box office prospect of the Shah Rukh Khan film even in India.
While a few might argue that the makers of King can be considered brave for clashing with these Hollywood films for Christmas season advantage. It could also turn out to be a bad decision if the film gets absolutely dissipated by these mentioned Hollywood films.
