Netflix has taken down the trailer of its upcoming web series Ghooskhor Pandat after facing strong protests across the country. This has been done following multiple several complaints lodged at police stations across North India. The issue has quickly turned into a big controversy on social media.
The title Ghooskhor Pandat, which translates to a bribe-taking Pandit has upset many groups. Due to this, National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice, while the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also stepped in. A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the release of the series. Seeing all this, Netflix has removed the trailer.
Going into details, the series stars Manoj Bajpayee in the role of Officer Ajay Dixit. The series revolves around a police officer whose one act of kindness drags him into a dangerous and complicated crime plot. The show is directed by Ritesh Shah and presented by filmmaker Neeraj Pandey.
Interestingly, some people have pointed out that though both Manoj Bajpayee and Neeraj Pandey belong to the Brahmin community themselves, they went ahead with the title and this has drawn even more flak. With legal trouble increasing, it remains to be seen whether Ghooskhor Pandat will make it to the streaming platform as planned.
