The film industry will always have issues with the censor board, with one aspect or another. However, there were too many controversies in the past regarding the censor board’s suggestions for films.
This existed down South and even in Bollywood. However, until recently, the censor board’s functioning seemed noncontroversial, but of late, issues have begun to pile up. The latest film to take a hit is Hey Bhagawan.
Starring Suhas, Shivani, and Naresh in the leads, Hey Bhagawan is the upcoming Telugu release. Billed to be a fun-filled comedy entertainer, there have been no objections raised when the trailer came out.
But now, the censor board has reportedly raised objections to the film’s title, prompting the makers to change it. Hey Bhagwan title has now become Hey Balawanth.
Earlier this year, Tamil films were under scrutiny by the censor board. Vijay’s Jana Nayagan and Sivakarthikeyan’s Parashakthi faced major censor hurdles. It also sparked a major debate about the extent to which the censor board can be involved in content. However, Parashakthi dodged the censor hurdles, but Jana Nayagan is yet to have a release.
Looking at the current scenario, the Tollywood films will also be under the radar. Just recently, producer Dheeraj claimed that the censor board asked them to change their title from Couple Friendly to Friendly Couple to obtain a U/A certificate. The makers retained their original title only.
Two more small films have undergone title changes. Vaanara has been renamed Vanaveera, and the upcoming film Chaiwala is now titled Nawab Cafe. This trend has become a big worry even for small films.
Having said that, the ongoing incidents could be a call of alert that the censor board scrutiny is going to become strict these days.
