Nani surprised everyone by asking people not to watch his next (HIT 3) if they did not like his production venture, Court.
Nani’s Challenge worked wonders for the film and Court got superb opening. The movie also met expectations and went on to become a massive hit in small films.
Later on, other celebrities also tried to attract the audience with the same statement.
Priyadarshi did the same for his Mithra Mandali. The movie was a dud and a non-starter at the box office and Priyadarshi had to apologize for the audience during the Pre-release promotions of his Premanta.
Recently, Kona Venkat also made a similar announcement in the Pre-release event of Band Melam. He asked the audience not to see the films which he will be writing in future if they do not like Band Melam.
Incidentally, Kona’s next writing venture is Megastar Chiranjeevi’s next with Bobby. Band Melam ended up as a disaster at the Box Office.
Forget about the results, their challenges did not even move the audience to theaters.
Industry should understand that it did not work for Nani just like that. Nani had earned so much of credibility over the years with his work. He has emerged as a minimum guarantee hero for the audience with his body of work.
For that reason, audience took Nani seriously when he made such a claim. It was not the case with Priyadarshi or Kona Venkat.
The audience did not even come to the theaters to check if they really made any sense. They easily understood they were being desperate.
Industry should also understand they should be original to impress the audience. In this case, Nani is Original and the rest were just mimicking him. Moreover, they are being desperate which audience can see through very easily.
