Indian cinema is currently witnessing an era dominated by period films which are laced with mythological and fantasy elements. From Bollywood to South India, every film industry is seeing a surge in scripts inspired by period genre as a large section of moviegoers are embracing them on the big screen.
For period films, music and background music play a significant role in giving a wholesome experience to viewers. Among the current crop of composers, the duo of Ajay and Atul attained a stupendous reputation for delivering an outstanding score to historical movies.
Known for their impressive track record in Marathi films, Ajay Ashok Gogavale and Atul Ashok Gogavale have carved out a niche for themselves in Bollywood as well with numerous banger songs and soul stirring background scores.
The duo is now turning out to be the prime choice for period films in Marathi and Hindi. By delivering chartbuster albums and also top notch background score in recent times, they have made a strong statement and garnered critical acclaim with films like Tumbbad, Thugs of Hindustan, Panipat, Tanji and Adipurush. Irrespective of how these films fared at the box office, their music received plaudits from all quarters.
For Ritesh Deshmukh’s upcoming historical Marathi film Raja Shivaji, Ajay-Atul seems to have delivered another pulse-pounding rendition which perfectly suits the genre and the cultural set-up. The anthem song from this film was unveiled to a thumping response recently as the background score gave instant goosebumps to the listeners.
Unfortunately, Telugu filmmakers have not utilised Ajay – Atul even after they have proved their mettle in Bollywood. They made their Telugu debut with Ravi Teja’s Shock and will soon make a comeback with Vijay Devarakonda’s Rana Bali. But, many feel that the duo deserve more opportunities down South because of their tryst with historical movies.
The formidable duo can be considered for mythological and fantasy films given that they have the experience to deliver pulsating orchestration with both songs and BGM.
