Mohanlal, fondly called Lalettan by fans, enjoyed a massive comeback phase with the blockbuster success of L2: Empuraan and Thudarum last year. Both films performed exceptionally well and reminded audiences why Mohanlal remains one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest superstars.
However, the actor’s momentum has slowed down once again with a series of disappointing releases. His emotional drama Hridayapurvam managed only an average run at the box office despite decent expectations. Things became worse with Vrushabha, which ended up as a major commercial failure and failed to impress both critics and audiences.
Adding to the disappointment, his latest multistarrer Patriot, which featured Mammootty alongside him, also failed to create the expected impact in theatres. These back-to-back setbacks have now shifted attention towards one project that Malayalam audiences have immense faith in Drishyam 3.
The Drishyam franchise remains one of the most loved thriller series in Indian cinema, and Mohanlal’s character Georgekutty has achieved cult status over the years. Fans strongly believe that Georgekutty could once again rescue Lalettan at the box office.
With huge anticipation surrounding the sequel, expectations are sky-high. The big question now is whether Drishyam 3 can bring Mohanlal back to winning form and end his latest streak of disappointments.
