Kajal’s Maiden Production – Hit Or Flop?

After focusing more on selective roles in recent years, Kajal Agarwal has now headlined and backed The India Story, a socially driven courtroom drama. Instead of a commercial entertainer, the film attempts to highlight the dangers of excessive pesticide use and its impact on public health.

The story follows a father who loses his young daughter to cancer, allegedly caused by contaminated food. Determined to seek justice, he takes on powerful companies through the legal system.

A lawyer and a police officer join him as they investigate the case, leading to a courtroom battle that questions the responsibility of pesticide manufacturers and farming practices.

While the film carries an important message, the narration reportedly moves at a slow pace, making it difficult to keep audiences engaged throughout. Kajal delivers a sincere performance, supported by Shreyas Talpade and Murali Sharma, but the emotional impact is said to fall short because of the screenplay.

Released only in Hindi, The India Story has reportedly opened to a weak box office response. Trade circles suggest that the film saw low occupancy on its first day, and its weekend performance will decide whether it can recover in the coming days.
