There was a time when the arrival of an Allari Naresh comedy meant one thing for a section of the Telugu audience, guaranteed fun. His comic timing and eccentric characters found a particularly enthusiastic following. After moving towards more serious and performance-oriented subjects, Naresh is once again back with a fantasy entertainer Ramba Oorvasi Menaka.
The early signs are encouraging. The film has registered a 4.40+ crore worldwide gross in its first three days, while bookings on BookMyShow are also showing an upward trend. More importantly, the response from B and C centres is emerging as one of the film’s biggest strengths.
Ramba Oorvasi Menaka puts Naresh back into a space where his body language, expressions and comic timing become central to the entertainment. After a long interval, watching him return to this territory itself becomes part of the attraction for his core audience.
Produced by Razesh Danda and Annapurna Studios, the film is not relying entirely on comedy, though. The mother emotion gives the narrative a sentimental backbone, creating a contrast between the lighter portions and the emotional moments.
It has to be seen whether the movie will pass Monday test.
