Droupadi Murmu, The New President of India

As predicted BJP’s candidate Droupadi Murmu has secured huge votes in the Presidential elections over opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha. This afternoon the counting got underway and after the first round of counting (essentially the votes polled by members of Parliament), Murmu secured 540 votes out of the 748 votes polled.

The value of Murmu’s 540 votes is 3,78,000 while Yashwant Sinha secured just 208 votes and their value is 1,45,600. 15 votes have been invalid, informed Rajya Sabha Secretary General. After the second round of counting, Murmu secured 809 out of the total 1,138 votes polled. Yashwant Sinha received 329 votes.

In the third round, Murmu got 812 votes, Yashwant Sinha 521 votes. The total valid votes polled are 3219 with total value of 8,38,839 of which Droupadi Murmu received 2161 votes of the value of 5,77,777. And Yashwant Sinha secured 1058 votes of the value of 2,61,062.

Thus, the Presidential election has concluded one-sided and Droupadi Murmu created history by becoming the first tribal woman to be elected as the President of India. She happens to be the 15th President for the country.
