Adventure sports can turn fatal if adequate safety precautions are not ensured. Several unfortunate incidents have come to light due to technical glitches and gross violation of safety measures.

In what could be a shocking and heartbreaking accident in Limeira, Brazil, a 21-year-old woman died on spot after she was launched from a bridge for a bungee jump without being connected to the safety rope. The victim was identified as Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, a graduate in physical education and sports management.

According to the Military Police and eyewitness accounts, the organizers failed to properly secure the safety equipment before launching Freitas from the elevated platform. She fell approximately 40 meters (around 130 feet), suffering multiple severe injuries. Emergency medical workers and firefighters rushed to the scene but confirmed she had died the moment she hit the ground.

What is more shocking is that the entire distrubing episode has been captured and the dramatic visuals before her death are now going viral all over on social media, triggering widespread attention of the public across the world.

The footage shows Freitas being guided to the platform by the event crew. Immediately after she is launched, bystanders can be heard screaming, “Guys, the rope!” as they realized the critical safety line was completely disconnected.

The organisers have immediately escaped the scene and fled into the nearby forest. However, they were quickly tracked down and detained with the assistance of a military police helicopter. In total, six people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
