Not Mumbai or Delhi, Hyderabad Is the Cinema Capital of India

Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Nolan’s The Odyssey are the two Hollywood biggies that have turned out to be 2026’s box-office sleeper hits in India. Both the films are witnessing huge footfalls, with families and children being the top segments among the audiences.

The interesting point to note is that multiplex crowds are thronging cinemas to catch these films. Movie lovers in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata are receiving Spider-Man and The Odyssey quite well.

The noteworthy point here is that Hyderabad has recorded the highest number of footfalls and ticket sales in the whole country among the Tier-1 cities. This is a great feat and reaffirms how the City of Pearls has a deep love for cinema. As Hyderabad hosts prestigious screens like Allu Cinemas Dolby, Prasad’s IMAX, AMB Cinemas, and more, the city has become a major cinema destination.

However, ironically, in terms of box office collections, Hyderabad stands at No. 3 or No. 4 in the country despite having the highest footfalls and the highest number of ticket sales. This is due to the capped ticket prices.

Ticket prices in North India and cities like Bengaluru were exorbitantly higher than those in Hyderabad. This is why Hyderabad lags behind in collections. But it remains the top city in the country in terms of ticket sales for Spider-Man and The Odyssey.

While Hyderabad is the unofficial Biryanis Capital of India, it can now also be called the unofficial Cinema Capital of India.
