Concerns are growing over the possible risks posed by increasingly powerful artificial intelligence systems. With the growing complaints and concerns against AI, very interesting development has taken place. Anthropic, the AI company that made Claude, has called upon spiritual and philosophical leaders from various religions to teach morals to the AI.
Interestingly, Anthropic has reportedly invited a Hindu spiritual leader to the US for discussions as well as to teach values and morals to the AI systems. As per reports, renowned Hindu Vedanta monk Swami Sarvapriyananda has been invited to the US. The news went viral online.
This came to light during a recent programme in which Swami Sarvapriyananda spoke about his interaction with the company. According to the Hindu spiritual leader, Anthropic had earlier contacted him for an online interview. He said the company later invited him to the US to take part in a discussion programme.
The interaction comes at a time when questions are being raised about the future of AI, its values and the possible implications of increasingly advanced AI systems. Anthropic’s outreach to a Hindu spiritual leader suggests that the company is also seeking perspectives beyond the technology sector as it examines these questions.
Catholic, Jewish, Sikh spiritual leaders and evangelists and thinkers, mental health specialists, psychologists and neuro experts were also invited to discuss and train the AI systems. They have all been reportedly involved in private meetings to basically help Anthropic find answers to: How do you teach a powerful AI system to behave morally?
With Artificial Intelligence posing serious risks and risks growing with each passing day, it is a laudable move by the Anthropic. Let’s hope other AI companies too follow this and adopt this.
