Don’t Panic Yet On Trump’s Foreign Film Tariff

Yesterday, US President Donald Trump dropped a big bomb on the film industry, saying that a 100% tariff will be imposed on foreign films that will be screened in the United States. He also said that the rule will come into immediate effect, affecting all foreign film producers, especially the makers of Indian cinema.

However, it looks like Trump’s government has taken a U-Turn on this decision as the White House said that no final decision has been made regarding this rule. It said that the government is exploring all options to deliver on President Trump’s orders to safeguard our country’s national and economic security while making Hollywood great again.

The official statement read, “Although no final decisions on foreign film tariffs have been made, the administration is exploring all options to deliver on President Trump’s directive to safeguard our country’s national and economic security while making Hollywood Great Again.”

It was also reported that Trump will discuss with Hollywood representatives regarding this 100% tariff rule before making the final decision. When he made the announcement yesterday, many film industry people were shocked and opined that it would severely affect foreign films that would screen in the US, ultimately affecting the entire film business. We have to wait for a few more days to know what will be Trump’s final decision on this rule.
