Trump Fears Impeachment Ahead Of Midterms?

US President Donald Trump has openly claimed that a defeat for Republicans in the upcoming midterms could oust him from the post as he feared that Democrats would make moves to impeach him if they regain control of Congress.

He made these shocking claims while speaking at a retreat of House of Republicans and urged his partymen to take the midterms on a serious note as the result could leave his presidency exposed. He stated that the control of Congress is imperative to block any efforts of impeachment by Democrats.

“You gotta win the midterms ’cause, if we don’t win the midterms, it’s just gonna be- I mean, they’ll find a reason to impeach me,” Donald Trump said.

Political observers opine that though the outcome midterms would not directly impact the future of Trump’s presidency, a lose could dent the hold of Republicans on Congress and likely complicate the passage of president’s legislative and sweeping reforms. Also, if they Democratic party has majority in the House, they have the authority to initiate impeachment proceedings.

Midterms are the traditional general elections held exactly at the middle of a US President’s four year term. All 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives will go for polls and also include races for state legislatures and municipal offices such as mayors and local councils. These elections are scheduled to be held on November 3rd this year.
