Five men from Punjab have been arrested in Onatrio, Canada, for stealing a trailer carrying cannabis worth over $2 million. Police also recovered two illegal firearms from them.
The Auto Cargo Theft Unit (ACTU) of the York Regional Police arrested the Indian-origin men following the recovery of the stolen consignment and weapons.
The accused, Manveer Singh, 21, Sarbjeet Singh, 32, Dilkhab Singh, 21, Jaiskavan Malhi, 23, all residents of Brampton, and Karan Kumar, 25, of Hamilton, face multiple charges.
The charges include theft of $5,000 involving a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, trafficking in stolen property, and several firearms-related offences, and unauthorized possession of firearms in a vehicle.
On April 15, 2026, police located a trailer at McLaughlin Road in Mississauga that was stolen from Niagara Region, containing a large amount of cannabis products to be delivered to various dispensaries. Identifying that the several men were linked to the stolen trailer, the police arrested the five Indian-origin men.
York Regional Police said they were investigating auto and cargo thefts across the York Region and the Greater Toronto Area, in association with the Equite Association.
