America’s political connections with India are becoming more interesting. After Andhra Alludhu JD Vance, now Karnataka has its own connection to the US Senate through the family of Sarah Jukaku, wife of newly elected Michigan Senator Abdul El-Sayed.
JD Vance, current USA Vice President is married to Usha Chilukuri, who has strong Telugu roots. Her family originally belongs to Andhra Pradesh, with ancestral connections to Vadluru village near Tanuku in West Godavari district.
Usha’s family is known for its long history of academic achievements, with several members serving as respected professors and educationists. Back then during the 2024 elections, Vance all over the desi media and especially the telugu media was all over the news.
Now, another Indian family connection has come into the spotlight after Abdul El-Sayed’s historic Senate victory with being the first muslim winning the Michigan Senate seat. Sarah Jukaku, his wife, belongs to a family whose roots trace back to Bhatkal in Karnataka.
Her grandfather, Jukaku Shamshuddin, was a respected lawyer, educationist and politician. He served as Deputy Finance Minister in the Mysore State government under BD Jatti and played an important role in the development of Bhatkal.
Interestingly, both these stories show how Indian families have made their mark in American public life. While Andhra’s Usha Chilukuri is now America’s Second Lady, Karnataka’s Sarah Jukaku is connected to a historic US Senate victory.
From Andhra Alludu to Karnataka Alludu, Indian family connections are reaching some of the highest levels of American politics. In other news, Pia Dandiya, a second generation Indian NRI has won as a senator from Florida state.
It is another reminder that America truly remains a symbol of how people from different diverse backgrounds around the world come and make it big, where people come together and build remarkable success.
