“Indians Used To Rip Us Off”: Trump

US President Trump made some interesting remarks about Prime Minister Modi while speaking on India and trade relations with the United States. While praising Modi’s leadership, Trump also revisited his old criticism of trade deals between the two countries.

Calling Modi a great leader, Trump said the Indian Prime Minister has been smart in keeping the country away from wars and major global conflicts. He noted that India has emerged as the world’s most populous nation and continues to play a bigger role on the global stage.

However, Trump did not hold back while talking about trade. He bluntly stated that India “used to really rip us off” in business dealings with the United States. The remark quickly grabbed attention as it echoed his long standing stance on trade imbalances.

Interestingly, Trump clarified that he does not blame India for taking advantage of the situation. Instead, he blamed previous American politicians, calling them “stupid politicians” for allowing such trade arrangements to continue for years.

Even after the sharp comments, Trump ended on a positive note. He said the US now does fair business with India and once again described Modi as a great leader, underlining the mix of admiration and tough trade rhetoric that has defined his view on India.
