US Cancels Visas of 600 Women in 9th Month of Pregnancy

The US has intensified its crackdown on birth tourism, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealing that around 600 visas were revoked in July alone.

The visas reportedly belonged to pregnant women who arrived in the US during their ninth month of pregnancy, allegedly with the intention of giving birth there.

Rubio said the visas were reviewed and cancelled under the Birth Tourism Task Force, as the US continues to tighten scrutiny of visitors suspected of misusing immigration rules.

The development comes amid the Trump administration’s broader efforts to strengthen visa enforcement and curb immigration related violations.

Meanwhile, stricter visa rules are also reportedly affecting international student arrivals. The number of students coming to the US during this year’s fall season has fallen by around 1.12 lakh compared with last year.

The latest measures are expected to further increase scrutiny of visa applicants, particularly those whose travel plans raise concerns among US immigration authorities.
