In what could be a classic example for getting a taste of one’s own medicine, infamous Indian origin CEO Vishal Garg, who went viral in 2021 for firing 900 employees on a Zoom call, is in news for losing his job and demanding it back.
Five years after that controversial incident, Garg has been removed from his position as CEO of Better Home & Finance. He is now fighting back and asking the board of directors to give him his job back.
As per reports, the company removed Garg from his post on August 3 and named Daniel Lewis as the new CEO. Lewis, a former hedge fund manager, had joined the company board just a week before Garg was let go.
He now claims that Lewis tricked him and the board into making this major decision so he could take over the top role himself.
The former CEO believes the board made a huge mistake by removing him after his ten years of work building the firm. He has hired a high-profile lawyer to fight against the board legally. A formal letter has already been sent to the board demanding his immediate return as chief executive.
Back in December 2021, Garg faced worldwide backlash after laying off nearly nine percent of his workforce over a short video call just before the holidays. It is unclear if his legal efforts will help him retain the position of CEO of the mortgage firm he built.
