New feat in India’s dynasty politics

Indian politics are mostly dominated by families and a new feat is recorded in India’s dynasty politics. Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s family is next to the Nehru-Gandhi family in political families spanning generations with the most number of members ever in active politics.

Deve Gowda’s grandson Suraj Revanna, son of former Karnataka minister H.D. Revanna was elected as MLC and this makes the eighth member of the Gowda clan to contest elections. Suraj who is a doctor by profession contested for the MLC from Hassan constituency and won with a margin of 1,433 votes.

More details of Gowda family members and their roles:

HD Deve Gowda – Rajya Sabha MP

HD Kumaraswamy – MLA – Channapatna constituency

Anitha Kumaraswamy – MLA – Ramanagara constituency

HD Revanna – MLA – Holenarasipur constituency

Bhavani Revanna – Former Zilla Panchayat member

Prajwal Revanna – Lok Sabha MP – Haasan constituency

Nikhil Kumaraswamy (Hero) – Janata Dal (Secural) Youth Wing President.

Before Suraj Revanna filed the nomination for the MLC elections, there was widespread criticism but dynasty political families ignore such flak and go ahead with what they are good at. Hassan being a strong fort of the Gowda family, the victory for Suraj was a cake walk.
