Centre Finally Wakes On Bifurcation Issues

It’s been close to eight years that the Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated but the issues pertaining to the Telugu states are pending and in fact they are becoming complicated with each day passing. Instead of playing a big brother role and resolving the issues, the BJP government in New Delhi played a spectator role and even tried to stop when KCR and Jagan wanted to settle them on their own.

Seems like BJP has finally woken up and formed a three member committee to look into the bifurcation act and promises. This reaction from BJP came after MPs from both the Telugu states raked up bifurcation issues in both Lok and Rajya Sabhas in the just concluded first phase of Parliament budget sessions.

The Union Home Ministry set up a three committee and this will be led by the joint secretary of the Home ministry. The other two members are SS Rawat who is finance secretary from AP and K Ramakrishna Reddy who is Telangana state’s special principal secretary. This committee will hold its first virtual meeting on 17th of this month and discuss the assets mentioned in Schedule 9 and 10 of AP Bifurcation Act.

Also the committee is going to discuss the ‘Special Category Status’ (SCS) to Andhra and this news gained huge significance. This is for the first time that the BJP government mentioned SCS which is the need of the hour for AP.

The other issues that the committee will discuss are bifurcation of AP Finance Corporation, consumption of electricity, amendments in tax, APSCCL – TSCSCL, financial assistance to the seven backward districts in AP, tax incentives.

But the surprise of all is the ‘Special Status’ issue. People of Andhra have lost all hope regarding the ‘Special Status’ and partly the YCP government too. Hope the Modi government really considers ‘Special Status’ to AP and brings a huge relief.
