Chevireddy Is Out From Cabinet Race

The tenure of YCP MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, serving as TUDA chairman, has been extended for two more years, even às he is aspiring for the cabinet berth, during the Cabinet reshuffle which is round the corner.

The denial of berth to Chevireddy led to discussion on who would be chosen as minister from Trirupati district.

Already, Ex Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and YCP MLA Roja are aspiring to be ministers from Chittoor. Bhuma Karunakar Reddy from Tirupati district is also aspiring to be a minister.

Political analysts observed that as all the above four leaders belong to the Reddy community and are aspiring for the ministerial berth, Jagan could not accommodate all of them.

It is learnt that Jagan called Chevireddy and spoke to him about his inability to accommodate him in the cabinet.

Chevireddy, a two-time MLA, is close to YSR and Jagan too. He was keen on securing the ministerial berth and working with Jagan. However, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy did not elevate Chevireddy as minister due to constraints in balancing the caste equations.

Chevireddy’s tenure as TUDA chairman is scheduled to end this July but the government issued a GO extending the tenure four months before the expiry of the term onlybtonavoid dissidence among the senior party leaders, political analysts said.

Chevireddy is also serving as government whip.

There is discussion on who among the three MLAs belonging to Reddy community would be picked from both the districts.

The YCP leaders are of the opinion that MLA Roja might be given place in the cabinet as she had won as the MLA twice and been targeted by the TDP when she fought against them. She was even suspended for a year from the Assembly.

It is learnt that Jagan is working hard to keep dissidence at bay among the seniors by trying to show them some alternative posts and play a safe game even while bringing in new faces into the Cabinet.
