Political Donations: YCP First, Janasena Last

In the realm of political donations, the YSRCP leads the pack in Andhra Pradesh, securing the highest revenue in contributions. The YSRCP, the ruling party in the state, amassed a total of Rs. 68 crores in donations. In contrast, the main opposition party, TDP, trailed behind, receiving only Rs. 11.92 crores in donations, landing in second place. Remarkably, the Janasena party found itself at the bottom of the list in terms of donations.

The Central Election Commission recently revealed these financial details, stating that all donations received by the YSRCP in the financial year 2022-23 are categorized as hidden funds. Despite the lack of transparency in revealing the donors and amounts, electoral bond rules shield these contributions from scrutiny. Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party also received substantial donations, with the BJP garnering Rs. 520 crores and the Congress party receiving Rs. 132 crores.

In specific terms, the YSRCP secured Rs. 52 crores through electoral bonds and an additional Rs. 16 crores through donations to the political party via the prudent trust. Conversely, the TDP did not receive any contributions through electoral or prudent trust bonds. Instead, the party openly collected donations from 193 contributors, including TDP sympathizers, leaders, software companies, and real estate businessmen. The TDP provided detailed information, including names and addresses of donors and the amounts donated, totaling Rs. 11.92 crores. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Party reported receiving no significant donations, while the Communist parties received Rs. 2 crores, and the Janasena party recorded the lowest amount, with donations totaling Rs. 30 lakhs.
