What’s Going On at Mohan Babu University?

Mohan Babu’s Sri Vidyanikethan Engineering College was initially granted autonomous status and later upgraded to Mohan Babu University. Recently, the university has come under scrutiny following allegations of financial irregularities.

The Andhra Pradesh Higher Education Regulatory and Monitoring Commission (APHERMC) reported that the university collected ₹26.17 crore in excess fees from students between 2022 and September 2024, in apparent violation of government norms. Following its investigation, the commission imposed a fine of ₹15 lakh on the university and directed the management to refund the excess amount within 15 days. The commission also recommended to the State Government that the university’s recognition be revoked, citing repeated violations and lack of transparency. These details have been published on APHERMC’s official website.

Manchu Vishnu Responds

In response to media coverage, the university’s Pro-Chancellor, Manchu Vishnu, issued a statement addressing the allegations. He said:

“We are issuing this statement in response to media reports regarding certain recommendations made by APHERMC against Mohan Babu University. The university strongly opposes these recommendations, which are only suggestions. The matter is currently under judicial review in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which has granted a stay order in favor of the university. It is unfortunate that these details were uploaded online despite the court’s stay order.”

He further clarified:

“Certain sections of the media are selectively presenting information to tarnish the university’s reputation. We urge parents and the public not to believe unfounded reports. APHERMC itself acknowledges that the university team fully cooperated during the inquiry, indicating no wrongdoing. We thank thousands of parents and students for their consistent support. Under the guidance of our Chancellor, Dr. M. Mohan Babu, we remain committed to empowering youth with world-class, holistic education.”

The university’s response underscores its commitment to legally addressing the allegations while continuing its educational mission. The final outcome will be determined by ongoing proceedings in the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
