The filing of the election affidavit is one of the most crucial procedures in the electoral process and it requires umpteen scrutiny. Any discrepancies in this can lead to action from the courts or the election commission.
Now, Thalapathy Vijay who’s contesting his first election campaign from Trichy East and Perambur constituencies is facing the exact same issue as he’s been notified by the court about an irregularity in his affidavit.
Today, the judges at the Madras high court made a verbal remark regarding the assets of TVK leader Thalapathy Vijay on the basis of petitioner V. Vignesh’s allegation that Vijay had disclosed assets worth only ₹115.13 crore in his Perambur election affidavit though the election affidavit filed in Tiruchi East disclosed his assets to be worth ₹220.15 crore.
The discrepancy amounting to over Rs 100 crore was pointed out by the high court and it was pointed out that this is against the regulations.
The madras high court instructed Vijay to file a counter in the case and asked for a detailed explanation on the difference in the two affidavits that he himself had filed. This could prove to be a costly legal reprimand to Vijay if he doesn’t act quick and take due action.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu is nearing the end of its election campaign, which concludes in two days, with polling on April 23 and results on May 3.
