The Cockroach Janata Party, which gained the spotlight of the entire country with its recent public campaign against NEET paper leak that culminated in the resignation of Education Minister, is now at the forefront of another social campaign ‘School Thik Karo’ ( Fix the school).
The movement is aimed to urge the policymakers to transform the government run schools in rural areas across the country. It was announced on the eve of 80th Independence Day last week and volunteers from CJP already started visiting several schools to highlight the crumbling infrastructure and lack of basic amenities for students.
Just like the protest against NEET paper leak, the School Thik Karo campaign also started assuming political colour. Recently, a team of CJP was attacked in Rajasthan when villagers and local political leaders tried to obstruct the inspection of a school in Ramapura Kanwarpura village.
Vehicles were damaged and CJP volunteers were assaulted in this confrontation. The incident occurred amidst controversy over the Rajasthan education department’s restrictions on outsiders entering government schools.
The alleged attack has once again gained widespread attention of the media and resulted in mixed reactions from the public. Many have condemned the attack and criticised the government for its apathy over the poor conditions in schools.
Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke announced that he will personally go to Jaipur and launch a protest if the government fails to start repairs to the school and also those who were behind the assault are arrested in the next 48 hours.
Keeping politics aside, it is an open secret that many government run schools across the country lack basic facilities and adequate infrastructure to provide quality education for children enrolled in them. This is why parents often opt for corporate schools. Those who cannot afford them, turn to government schools.
So, the School Thik Karo movement is indeed an appreciable initiative to draw the attention of those who are in power. If the campaign is politicised, it will no doubt lead to more mileage only for CJP and give it a free publicity. Moreover, it also might turn into a mass movement in the coming days and put the government in a spot of bother again.
