‘God Save This Country’: BJP MP’s Wife Calls Out Indian Railways

A train journey turned into a frustrating experience for an MP’s wife, who has now raised questions about civic sense and public behaviour in India. The MP is none other that the firebrand Bengaluru South Young MP Tejaswi Surya wherein his wife Sivasri Skandaprasad who is a renowned dancer and classical musician.

Sharing her experience on X, she said her train ride became “traumatic” because of a large group of passengers who kept talking, laughing and making noise for almost five hours.

Around 40 people were travelling together in a coach that had around 56 seats. She said she could understand the excitement of travelling with friends and family, but felt that the other passengers should not be forced to listen to loud conversations for hours.

She also explained that, as an artist, she needs some peace and silence to think. She therefore approached the TTE and asked if she could move to another coach.

Unfortunately, the train was full and another seat in a different coach was not available. She had to remain in the same coach.Things became more frustrating when another group of around eight passengers started playing UNO while laughing and talking loudly. She again approached the TTE and asked if something could be done.

The shocking part was TTE was also negligent later and in return asked her why are you creating such a nuisance. Instead of taking the matter seriously, the group laughed and even told the TTE, “Sir, you also come and play with us.”

Many of us have been facing such incidents across Railways where the basic civic sense has never prevailed over much resulting in an unpeaceful journey.

The incident also raises a simple question: Why are people expected to simply adjust when someone else refuses to respect public space?

Indian Railways carries millions of people every day. Along with better services, perhaps we also need better public behaviour from passengers.
