AP Police Arrest Navy Sailor Pradeep for Leaking Defence Secrets

Officers working in sensitive positions get honey-trapped and leak confidential information to intelligence agents disguised as women from rival countries. In another similar operation, an Indian navy officer has reportedly shared military information with a Pakistani lady.

As per reports, Andhra Pradesh Counter Intelligence cell police have arrested a sailor named Pradeep Mukherjee over the allegation that he has leaked sensitive data with a Pakistani woman whom he befriended through a social media platform. The arrest was made at the INS Agrani training facility in Coimbatore where he arrived to attend a management course.

Investigators revealed that a Pakistani operative trapped him through an online honeytrap a few months back. The agent lured him on social media and gathered vital details regarding warship movements, naval assets, and operational bases in Visakhapatnam.

The Counter Intelligence team had put the sailor under surveillance after tracking suspicious digital activities. After getting required clearance from navy authorities, police caught him from the base.

He was produced in local court for a transit warrant and taken to Vijayawada for questioning. Officers are now checking if he received any payments through online transfers or hawala channels for sharing these sensitive defence files.

They are also looking into his financial dealings to find out whether any money was paid as part of this deal. He was originally from West Bengal and joined Indian navy in 2014.
