The former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jaganmohan Reddy has multiple disproportionate assets cases while against him. The Central Bureau of Investigation CBI and the Enforcement Directorate ED have been behind him for well over 15 years. But there has been very little progress in these cases in the recent years.
After having successfully secured remarkable victory in the 2019 election, Jagan completely moved away from the judicial radar. Whenever he was prompted to appear for court hearing, he used to showcase his responsibility as the CM to evade action.
But finally, there is a bit of progress in this direction as the ED has approached the Telangana High Court with the intention of fastening the court proceedings.
The ED requested the Telangana High Court to permit daily hearing on this case and asked for Jagan’s presence along with other accused in this case. Related argument was made in front of the Telangana High Court today.
The ED filed Writ Petition No. 33845/2026 before the Telangana High Court on September 23, 2026, seeking a speedy, day to day trial and the personal appearance of all accused in the PMLA, 2002 prosecution complaints against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and 73 others.
According to the ED, the cases relate to allegations of large scale corporate favours and massive quid pro quo investments in his family’s companies, allegedly extended by the Andhra Pradesh government during the tenure of his late father, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, as Chief Minister.
The ED even presented the hard evidence regarding the case as 9 petitions have been pending for the last 10 years in this case without much progress. All of this needs to be fast tracked at the earliest and that’s what is pointed out by the ED now.
But only time will tell if the Telangana High Court will put any serious legal eye into this matter. It must be parallelly noted that the CBI court had also put this case on the back peddle for a while now.
