It is known that the Taliban have taken over Afghanistan following a chaotic siege. Following their takeover of Afghanistan, the Taliban have now permitted the country’s first cricket match.
Afghanistan is set to play its first cricket match after the Taliban takeover. Afghan players are now preparing for a one-off test match against Australia that will be taking place in Hobart, Australia in November.
The last time Taliban were in power, they imposed a ban on Cricket, but that isn’t the case now. The Taliban chief have evinced interest in ‘actively promoting’ cricket in the country.
“The Taliban government hopes to maintain cordial relationships with other countries. We will not interfere with the Afghanistan cricket board. The cricket team will be free to organise foreign and domestic tours,” the statement from a Taliban spokesperson read.
It is heard that several Taliban top-tier leaders really enjoy watching cricket and they have decided not to impose any restrictions on the sport this time around.
Afghanistan Cricket Board has also announced that it will be touring India later next year for a bilateral series.
