IPL 2026 was a disappointing one for Chennai Super Kings and its fans as they could not witness their team qualify for the play-offs, and neither could they watch their favourite Dhoni in action.

However, this bad run is likely to continue with the 2027 season as well. It is being reported that Dhoni is not likely to be a part of the playing squad for the 2027 season of IPL.

Instead of Dhoni could be confining himself to a mentor position, which was always expected from him in the first place itself. He played a similar role in the 2026 season as well, considering that he did not play a single game in the entire tournament this year.

However, this can be a lot more impactful for Chennai Super Kings at the fundamental level as this could not affect the chemistry, but also the ticket sales aspect.

It was Dhoni who was driving the ticket sales for CSK franchise for many years, and it should be a tough task to bring fans in big numbers in his absence. So there is every chance that Dhoni could be making an occasional appearance on the ground to energize fans. This could be a constant strategy that will be followed by the franchise.

However, it is very strange to see Dhoni, who is one of the biggest superstar in the sport sign from the IPL without a farewell or send off game. He was never begun attention and that’s reflecting again in the way he’s stepping out from the IPL.
