Cash-rich Indian Premier League is set to witness a major ownership shake-up ahead of the 2026 IPL season as two heavyweight teams are going up for sale as per reliable reports. A few days ago, it was already announced formally that 2025 Champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru is up for sale as new buyers are invited to take up the franchise.
Now, speculation is rife that first season winners of IPL, Rajasthan Royals is likely to see a change in its guard very soon. This news was broken by Harsh Goenka, elder brother of Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka, via his social media platform X.
He posted “I hear, not one, but two IPL teams are now up for sale- RCB and RR. It seems clear that people want to cash in the rich valuations today. So two teams for sale and 4/5 possible buyers! Who will be the successful buyers- will it be from Pune, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru or USA?”
The Jaipur-based franchise is owned by the Royals Sports Group (Emerging Media Sporting Holdings Limited), which holds a 65% stake. Key minority stakeholders include Lachlan Murdoch and RedBird Capital Partners.
While RCB is reportedly pursuing a 2 Billion USD through the sale of its franchise, it is too early to speculate about the evaluation of selling price of Rajasthan Royals which failed to secure the second title after the inaugural season. There are reports that the management is considering sweeping structural changes off the field as well.
There is also chance for the home matches of the franchise to be shifted from Rajasthan to Pune over differences with Rajasthan Cricket Association.
