First Omicron Case Detected In AP

COVID-19’s latest variant Omicron is spreading slowly in India. Already, we have witnessed more than 30 cases of this variant across various states in the country. Now, Andhra Pradesh gets its first Omicron case, in the city of Vishakhpatnam.

A 34-year-old foreign national was found positive for the Omicron variant in Visakhapatnam. He travelled to the city from Mumbai on 27 November.

When he came down to Mumbai from Ireland, he was found negative for COVID-19. Thus, he landed in Vizag. When a retest was conducted in Vizianagaram, he tested positive for the virus.

Soon, his samples were sent to CCMB in Hyderabad and the results were declared as Omicron positive. He has no symptoms as of now. The Director of Public Health, Andhra Pradesh, stated that the patient was retested on December 11 and he was tested negative.

As per the reports, a total of 15 foreign travellers who landed in Andhra Pradesh were tested positive for the COVID-19. Their samples were sent to CCMB for genome sequencing. Out of the 10 declared results, one was found Omicron positive.

The government asked the public to wear masks all the time and follow the necessary COVID-19 protocols.
