The third wave of the COVID-19 is going super strong across the world. Not just India but all the other big countries are witnessing a big spike in the number of persons affected by the virus. New Zealand is also witnessing a surge in the cases and the government decided to intensify the restrictions which are already in place.
As a result of the new COVID-19 restrictions, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was forced to call off her own wedding and the news has become viral on social media.
The outbreak of the Omicron variant is bothering the administration and they decided to put restrictions on all the events happening in the country.
“My wedding will not be going ahead,” she confirmed to the media. Apparently, a family that traveled between cities to attend a wedding witnessed nine new cases of Omicron and it forced the government to impose its “red setting” restrictions from midnight Sunday.
The government also made face masks mandatory on public transport and in shops.
Ardern was supposed to get married to her long-time partner Clarke Gayford in the next few weeks but she has officially confirmed that the wedding is postponed.
“I’m no different to thousands of other New Zealanders who have had much more devastating impacts felt by the pandemic, the most gutting of which is the inability to be with a loved one sometimes when they are gravely ill. That will far outstrip any sadness I experience,” she shared with the media.
