House Of The Dragon: First Episode Is Okay, But Not Shocking

One of the world’s most watched TV series is HBO’s “Game Of Thrones”. The show kept the viewers sitting on the edge of their couches for nearly 10 years through its riveting 8 seasons, though the last season is a bit disappointing. And now, GOT team has come up with a prequel version, “House Of The Dragon”, which premiered this Monday morning in India on Disney+Hotstar.

The S01 E01 of “House Of The Dragon” is all about the life of the super hype Targaryen family from GOT and the events preceding 172 years earlier than that of the previous series. The first episode is all about King Viserys picking his heir to the throne, between his elder daughter and draconian brother. With his wife delivering a dead male baby, a scene which is quite gruesome in the EP01, and losing her own life in the process, he chooses his elder daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen (played by Milly Alcock) over his brother, Prince Dameon Targaryen (Matt Smith of The Crown fame).

Both Milly and Matt are stunning with their performance and that’s what find more interesting in this show’s EP01, while the overall shocking nature of Game Of Thrones is quite missing. The first ever episode of GOT ends with Jamie and Cersei Lannister pushing Bran Stark from the top of a building after the kid finds out about their incest affair. Such shocking revelations are not there in HOD so far, while Episode 1 got interesting towards the end.
