Modi quipped on social media, “In India, who needs ‘Money Heist’ fiction, when you have the Congress Party, whose heists are legendary for 70 years and counting!”
The BJP’s video, labeling it the Congress’s “Money Heist,” was released after income tax raids targeted Boudh Distillery Private Limited, a company linked to Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Sahu. The BJP’s video and Modi’s subsequent social media post aimed to underscore allegations of corruption within the Congress, emphasizing the recovery of significant sums during the raids. Congress, in response, distanced itself from the cash recovered at the MP’s home, stating that only Sahu could explain the circumstances surrounding the discovery of large amounts of cash.
The political tussle intensified as the BJP accused the ruling BJD and the Odisha government of facilitating illegal liquor trade and black money proliferation. The BJP’s protests across Odisha targeted the excise policy, alleging undue benefits to liquor barons. The BJD, in a counter-response, criticized the BJP for attacking the regional party, asserting that the state BJP leaders seemed more focused on saving the Congress than addressing corruption issues. Congress, in turn, dismissed the allegations as laughable, emphasizing that the party had been unnecessarily dragged into the controversy by the BJD and BJP.
