A man entered the lion enclosure at Tirupati Zoo to click a selfie with it. The lion attacked him and mauled him to death. The incident happened on Thursday afternoon.
Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park authorities said the man, Prahlad Gujjar 38-year-old from Alwar had entered the lion enclosure after getting into an area not authorized for the public. Gujjar then climbed a fence of over 25 feet tall and jumped into the enclosure. He reportedly behaved in a way to provoke the lion. After the lion attacked him, he tried to save himself by climbing a tree.
Before the caretaker could react, the lion ‘Dongalpur’ mauled Gujjar to death. A police case has been registered and a post-mortem is being conducted. The authorities are trying to inform the news to the family.
It is not known if Prahlad Gujjar was drunk at that time. The zoo has three lions – Kumar, Sundari, and Dongalpur. Dongalpur has now been moved to a cage and will be kept under observation.
