Steve Smith and Jos Buttler played the responsible game and handed over a seven-wicket crucial victory to their team. With this win, Rajasthan Royals is still in the race of a playoff berth.
After winning the toss, CSK elected to bat first. Their plan didn’t work well as the batsmen never really played a good game right from the beginning. The team’s core batsmen Faf du Plessis, Sam Curran, Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu got out inside 10 overs. The situation of CSK was miserable on that slow surface. That’s when MS Dhoni (28) and Ravindra Jadeja(35*) tried to play till the end without losing another wicket. Finally, Dhoni got out in the 18th over. Jadeja had hit a couple of big shots in the end and helped CSK to post a total of 125/5 in 20 overs.
It was supposed to be an easy chase for Rajasthan Royals but they made it difficult for themselves by losing three wickets pretty early in the innings. Ben Stokes, Robin Uthappa and Sanju Samson went back to the dug-out inside the power play. When things seemed to be turning towards CSK, Steve Smith (26) and Jos Buttler (70) came in the rescue of RR. They didn’t try for any big shots and only rotated strike most of the time. They made sure to not lose any other wicket until the end of the innings. Thus, RR managed to score 126/3 in 17.3 overs. RR will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad on October 22 and CSK will take on Mumbai Indians on October 23.
