More Than Half Of Indians To Have Had Covid By Feb 2021

The second wave of Coronavirus infections spread is likely in many countries as experts predict. India is right next to the US in a total number of Covid-19 cases, except that the number of cases in India has seen a decline and so is the number of deaths. More than 76 lakh positive cases were reported so far.

According to the analysts, by February, more than 50 percent of Indians are likely to have had the COVID-19. Nearly 65 crore people in India’s total population, are expected to have been infected with the coronavirus by next February, as per the projections. This projection indicates that half of the people getting infected indicated the slowing of the spread of the disease.

The Covid-19 infections are decreasing after the country has seen a peak in September, with nearly 60,000 new cases being reported on an average day. Around 30 percent of the population in India is currently infected and it could reach 50 percent by February, opined a professor at the IIT Kanpur.

The professor also opined that serological surveys may not be yielding correct results about the total people infected with the virus, as their surveys might not be covering the vast population. Instead, the virologists and scientists depend on a mathematical model that categorizes the people into reported and infections that do not get reported.

Well, again, if the mandatory practices like social distancing and wearing masks were not followed, the experts warn there could be a spike of more than 20 lakh cases in a single month and then their model predicting the slowing of spread by February does not hold up.

The virologists and other experts warned about a possible chance of rising in the number of cases in the country as there are festivals coming up, like Durga Puja and Diwali.
