OTT Weekend Turns Mixed: Two Miss, One Clicks

This weekend saw the OTT debut of three notable films, Bhartha Mahashyulaku Wignyapthi, Couple Friendly, and Funky. While expectations were high for these releases, their digital performance has turned out to be quite mixed.

Among them, Bhartha Mahashayulaku Wignyapthi, featuring Ravi Teja, was expected to perform well on OTT. The film arrived on Zee 5 after a delayed digital release, and many believed it could gain traction online. However, the film has not generated the expected buzz so far, mainly due to limited excitement surrounding its OTT premiere. Not many are interested and have posted much on social media about the film.

The situation is similar for Funky, starring Vishwak Sen. Director Anudeep K. V. usually enjoys strong OTT traction, especially thanks to meme culture and social media buzz. Even his earlier film Prince, which underperformed in theatres, managed to gain decent appreciation on streaming platforms. Surprisingly, Funky has not managed to replicate that success and has gone unnoticed on OTT.

On the other hand, Couple Friendly, featuring Santosh Sobhan and Manasa varanasi is showing encouraging signs. Though the film had only a moderate theatrical run despite positive reviews, it is now receiving good response on OTT, particularly from Tamil audiences. As the film is set in Chennai, it is also getting more traction there.

Overall, it has turned out to be a mixed week for major OTT releases, with only select titles managing to find traction among viewers. So much was expected from these films to get solid views but that has not happened as the audience were prepared to givwe these films a miss and only a select few are watching them on OTT.
