Amazon Allows H-1B Employees to Work From India?

As per Business insider report, Amazon said its employees stranded in India due to H-1B visa delays can work remotely till March, but with some restrictions.

H-1B visa holders who travelled to India for visa stamping were stranded after their in-person interviews were rescheduled. Amazon informed its Indian employees via an internal memo.

The memo posted on Amazon’s internal HR portal on December 17 said that employees who were in India as of December 13 and waiting for a rescheduled visa appointment can continue working in remote mode till March 2, 2026.

However, the employees working remotely from India are not allowed to code, interact with customers or take strategic decisions. The coding ban also includes troubleshooting and testing. The employees working remotely are barred from visiting or working from any Amazon buildings in India.

At the same time, Amazon did not speak of what should be done if H-1B employees are stranded in countries other than India. Also, there is no mention of what should the employees do if their interview schedules are scheduled after March 2, 2026.
