As the popular saying goes, the youth of the nation form the crux of the country and essentially the future of the nation. But if we observe the latest statistic associated with Telangana, we get a horrifying reality check as the volume of Gen Z(generally born after 1997) people who got jailed in 2025 is agonisingly high.
Reportedly a total of 42,566 people were sent to jail in Telangana in the year 2025 and shockingly enough, the majority of this compartment belongs to the famous Gen Z.
According to the statistics reported, 19,413 individuals aged 18-30(mostly Gen Z) went to jail in 2025. In terms of pure volume, this age group constitutes for the majority of the jailed population in the state of Telangana.
Another shocking number that is to be watched with great concern here is that 40090 are first time offenders to jail.
When it comes to the breakdown of the nature of the offences that put these individuals in jail:
Drunk & Drive: 2,833 people (Up 152%)
Cyber Crime: 1,784 people (Up 135%)
POCSO cases: 4,176 people. (Up 11%)
Drugs (NDPS): 7,040 people
Murder: 3,260 people
The number of drunken drive cases and also the cases that have landed people in jail are going up consistently, and this is not a good sign either.
This isn’t an individual case of Telangana or just another independent state, but a moral indication of the current mindset of modern day folk. There is desperate need for filteration and better civic sense from the common public, including the Gen Z.
