Horrifying Video: Wayanad Landslide Leaves 8 Dead

Wayanad district in Kerala is one of the most fragile and flood prone areas of South India. In 2024, a deadly landslide took away the lives of more than 250 people and left many others homeless during rainy season.

Two years later, the picturesque valley has once again witnessed a similar disaster today as a heavy rains resulted in another terrifying landslide just a while ago. The landslide has struck near a tunnel project site near Mundakkai in Wayanad following days of relentless heavy rainfall.

As per preliminary reports, 8 people have reportedly gone missing in the debris left in the wake of this devastating landslide. Tens of people have suffered serious injuries.Officials have confirmed that two of them have died and the rescue operation is currently underway.

The sudden catastrophe occurred near the Meenakshi Bridge, instantly bringing back painful memories for local residents of the horrific 2024 landslides that completely devastated nearby villages like Mundakkai and Chooralmala.
The thick, heavy mud and ongoing downpours are posing severe challenges, significantly delaying the deployment of heavy earth-moving equipment needed to clear the massive debris field.

Dramatic visuals capturing live moments of this disaster are currently going viral on social media. People can be seen running for their lives when the landslide was about to come downhill. Several local people joined the rescue mission and saved those who are stuck in the debris.
