‘Heart’ Travels In Hyd Metro Train To Save A Patient

Hyderabad Metro Rail on Tuesday created a special green corridor between Nagole and Jubilee Hills check post stations to facilitate non-stop transport from Kamineni Hospital, LB Nagar to save a heart patient admitted at Apollo Hospital, Jubilee Hills.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited MD NVS Reddy stated that it is for the first time that such a train was run to transport a heart to save a life.

“The special train which started from Nagole Metro station had picked up the healthy heart from a 45 year old farmer who was declared brain-dead patient in Kamineni hospital at around 4.40 PM and paced through the entire stretch of 21 kilometers nonstop,” Reddy said.

Dr. AGK Gokhale of Apollo Hospitals with a team of doctors travelled along with the live organ in the metro. A 44-year-old patient in Apollo hospital was in urgent need of heart transplantation and a healthy organ was available in Kamineni hospitals. When the traffic on road and the distance challenged the doctors, as it could take more than an hour to reach even if a green channel was made on road, they have gone for Hyderabad Metro train services.

Dr. Gokhale appreciated the timely gesture by LTMRHL that saved nearly 45 minutes. If a heart is harvested for transpalntation ,it should start working in four hours.

It took 30 minutes for the train to reach Jubilee Hills check post station. An ambulance was kept ready at Jubilee Hills check post station to take the heart to Apollo hospital, he added.
